Parasites, Fungi, Candida

Parasites, fungi, candida can quite possibly be the underlying source of many poor health symptoms and illnesses that so many of us struggle with on a daily basis. Let’s get to know these a little better so we can better support our body through whatever it is it’s fighting.

Parasites

Did you know that parasitic infections impact the lives of millions of people in the US?

There are different types of parasites that can harm your health, including:

  • Protozoa: single-cell organisms ingested or transmitted by insect bites, e.g., malaria.
  • Helminths: parasitic worms ingested from eating undercooked meat from an infected animal, e.g., tapeworms.
  • Arthropods: insects and spiders that carry or cause disease, e.g., ticks and fleas.
  • Fungi: spores and molds that can cause disease in humans in the form of yeasts, e.g., candidiasis.
  •

Candida

Candida is a yeast-like fungus with parasitic tendencies that lives on the skin and in the mouth, throat, gut, colon, and reproductive organs. This fungi is often neglected when exploring physical and even emotional symptoms people deal with.

The simple presence of candida is nothing to fret about when the yeast is in balance with other microbes in the body’s digestive system. Certain factors can contribute to it being out of balance (like age, hormonal imbalances, etc).  Sometimes, this imbalance leads to infection and overgrowth, known as candidiasis.

Symptoms of candidiasis can include:

  • Fatigue
  • Digestive issues
  • Sinus infections
  • Joint pain
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Oral thrush

Candidiasis in the mouth, throat, or esophagus can be managed easily in healthy adults. However, when the immune system is weakened, candidiasis can be a larger concern.

Support Your Health-Parasite Prevention

It is not uncommon for parasitic infections to be misdiagnosed or even undiagnosed when it comes to health concerns. It’s always a good practice to support your body the best way you can before infection or imbalance can become a problem.  Here’s some simple steps you can take to help your body fight off any invading organisms.

Cut Out Processed Foods

What you eat can and will affect your body’s ability to prevent or fight off parasitic infections. Sugars tend to be the root cause of candida because yeast feasts off of sugar. I always cut down on the consumption of processed foods and/or foods loaded with sugars when dealing with anything lowering the immune system’s function.

Eat A Rainbow

Eating a rainbow is one of the best ways to support the immune system. You need a strong immune system to fight parasites.

Balance Gut Bacteria

Supporting the gut will help keep candida and other parasites in balance and at bay. To achieve a balanced microbiome, make sure you’re getting prebiotics and probiotics in your diet. Fiber is one of my favorite tools for this.

Use Garlic And Oregano

Garlic and oregano are powerful tools to support the immune system, and contain antimicrobial compounds that help the body cast out parasites, viruses, and even bacteria. How easy are these to add to your favorite dishes?!

Prioritize Sleep

Parasitic infections can often make it hard to get quality sleep. Sleep is absolutely necessary in aiding the body’s fight against this and other issues, so make sure you take steps to improve your sleep. Reach out for tips and tricks!
